Hot Topics: Governor Sanford and his soul mate; Sarah Palin resigns as governor

  1. Why people are confused about her resigning is insane? In 8 months she had accrued $500,000 of personal legal lawsuit bills in conjunction with $2 million spent from public taxpayer's money. And they were frivolous lawsuits so this whole comparison of Democrats comparing their legislative matters and hers is insane. Hers were over trivial matters and not over policy related issues.

Palin, Ryan and Romney in 2012!!! :)

  2. I always love Joy but have to disagree with her on sleeping with children issue with M.J.
Just because there are many pedophiles who like to sleep with children, it doesn't mean that M.J was like that. It is not a creepy thing for M.J. to share his bed or bed room with his young charge(s). This was a superstar. The kids want to sleep in his home, in his bedroom, even in his same bed. And he was indulgent. M.J was too naive and too indulgent to the kids. And it came back and bit him hard.

  3. well, joy brought a good point about paedophile don't want to hurt children..but it's wrong.

I'm sure if she had made it into the White House she would have the wonderful "Department of Law" to "throw out" those silly claims against her, right? Besides, who cares about a few petty ethical violations - she's Sarah! She's above the law, right?

Would you like to handle frivolous lawsuits and pay $500,000 of your OWN money? Why do you have such hate towards her? Is she too "folksy" for you?

Go listen to hate TV aka MSNBC & keep drinking the kool-aid.

I really want to know what Obama has done while in his presidency to affect change. Please enlighten me.

Keep it on topic. She is a public figure, and she is going to be hit with some lawsuits, "frivolous" or not. Obama has been dealing with frivolous lawsuits since before he was even confirmed by Congress, while having 10 other things to juggle. I dislike her (hate is a strong word) specifically because of what I brought up - her plain idiocy, glaringly brought to the forefront by her ignorance of the DOJ and the basic principle that it is the courts that hear cases and toss them out, not the DOJ themselves.

You still didn't answer the question. Would you stay in office if it meant that you personally had to pay out hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions?

Lest we forget that Obama wasn't in office for long and look at the mess he's putting on the country. I'm still waiting for the stimulus money to stimulate and once this cap and trade bill AND health care passes through, the citizens will be sorry. But it'll be YOUR fault. :)

And if you think she's an idiot, why don't you run for office if you think you're any smarter? I've lived all over our great country and I have no problem with the way that she talks. Leave the woman alone, my gosh.

  8. Also, I find it funny that I can mention other polticians, but the one that brings such venom is Palin. Go figure! You must all be in cahoots with Olbermann...haha

  9. I also understand that individuals in public office must deal with citizens that don't agree with them on policy or character. What I don't agree with, is that Palin has had to suffer more under the media spotlight, than other public figures. Liberal media outlets pounce on her every chance they get. Why don't they try living in a city where there isn't a train or a subway to get around in? If Palin were being treated like any typical political public figure, then I wouldn't care. But I am for justice, else I wouldn't be planning to go to law school. :)

If the lawsuit was frivolous, she might be able to recoup attorney's fees, etc. Though the FBI may have denied a federal investigation, there have been PROPER investigations begun on whether she used taxpayer money/got a discount on rebuilding her house. Investigations such as this are indeed relevant
Like I said earlier, keep it on top - THAT is why I "didn't answer the question". I'm just going to say this - how exactly did Obama "put this country in a mess" when this country was already in one? As to the stimulus, I know you're not into economics, but go look up Keynes, the Glass Steagall Act, the Gramm - Leach - Bliley Act, the Commodities Futures Modernization Act. That should give you a head start.
One last thing about Palin suffering more - her spousal relationship w/an Anti - American secessionist was never mentioned, while Obama's "relationship" with Bill Ayers was played out ad nauseum. Now quit making this a political board and stick to the TOPIC. PALIN's resignation and lawsuits, her resignation statements are topics - stick to those.

  11. Oh, and to the anonymous I mentioned above, I forgot one more thing.

I may be "smarter" than Sarah Palin (on the fact that I know there is a DOJ and they don't toss out claims) in some ways (I don't know well enough to say I'm smarter than her on every single issue in the world), but I am still not smart enough nor knowledgeable enough to feel that running for office would be a good idea - and what does that say about her? She may speak in a "folksy" manner, but that is not the end all and be all for public office.

  12. all a ploy for MONEY...........phoney-hateful woman-----if she can see Russia---MOVE THERE!

Who cares if she recoups her money when the value is the time wasted on such lawsuits. Getting money back isn't a guarantee, unless it's stipulated in the attorney's contract. I believe it depends on state law too, if such a law exists that you earn pay your attorney's fees should you "win" a case. But why want to put up with it? She can do far more good to Alaska and the Republican Party outside of the state.

As far as Obama & Ayers, please do not tell me that you think that Ayers was mentioned ad nauseum by media outlets. I believe ONE outlet mentioned him ad nauseum, still to this day, along with ACORN. The fact that you think the media has reported on a matter significantly shows that you're easily brainwashed.

As for this whole blame Bush nonsense, the problem is now Obama's. I'm sure Republicans if we were to concede anything will give him one stimulus break, but that's it. Cap & trade, health care and the next stimulus package are all Obama's doings.

I take pride in Texas wanting to secede from the US. With the pathway that we're going down, who wouldn't?

Also, it's called The View. Get over it. If you don't care about politics enough to talk about it, then go to TMZ.

I wasn't talking about recouping the money, and yes, you probably could recoup your attorney fees if the lawsuit was frivolous. Why WANT to put up with it? It's called accountability. If the remodeling of your house comes up JUST around the time you are spending money on retrofitting a state bulding and both just happen to have the same exact new windows, etc. you should be investigated. Ethics complaints SHOULD be investigated, so yes you WANT to put up with it while still defending yourself in court.

Regarding Ayers, other stations DID report on it and moved on - you know WHY? Because there not much of a link there. And yes, it WAS done ad nauseum, whether on one station or more. Meanwhile that "one" station didn't even mention Palin's secessionist husband and any other station that mentioned it (barely) only mentioned it in conjunction with Palin's hypocrisy of saying Obama is palling around with terrorists while she is sleeping with a secsesionist.

I'm not blaming this whole mess on Bush, that is why I mentioned Gramm - Leach - Bliley and Commodity Futures Modernization Acts - go look them up - there is a lot of blame to go around. You cannot escape the fact, however, that Bush did blow a surplus and put us in a trillion dollar debt.

About secession, so you take PRIDE in people voicing an ANTI-AMERICAN and UNCONSTITUTIONAL sentiment? Secession is both of these things And you're going to lawschool in the fall? That's a laugh.

Finally, I DO care about politics (as you can see), but this isn't the forum to go into off - topic rants.

One little update: Palin essentially lied. A little over 1 million was spent on State lawyer, but that amount is based on their fixed hourly salary and not specific to defending ethical investigations. The lawyers might have had less time to spend on other lawsuits, but they would have received that money ANYWAY, regardless of any ethics investigation, because they had other work to do for the State and would have made that money anyway. That's the 2nd lie (or "stretching of the truth") that she has been caught in within the last week.

  16. You all just don't understand politics. She played her cards nicely. She went on the air on a typically taboo day (Friday) and got weekend coverage over a national holiday. Anyone with a sane brain that pays attention to politics at all would know what the underlying meaning of her rhetoric was. And she's going to go far with whatever pathway she takes so I can't wait for all the naysayers to continue their hate!

The woman was "murdered" by hate TV news stations and bloggers. No other female politician, let alone politician of today, has had to deal with more hate blows that she has.

I don't mind secession from a principle if the principle is rationalized. Sorry if you are against FREE THOUGHT.

And the Ayer/ ACORN debacle is still going on. If you're the Prez, why wouldn't you just state blatantly your thoughts on the matter. It makes no sense, but to add to the story that Obama is ok with these types of thoughts and actions taking place. I don't care so much for Ayers, but the more interesting story lies in ACORN & their mess.

Go be brainwashed by the media, I don't care. I just don't want to be paying the atrocious bills when I/my parents/my friends/etc. take care of our obligations and don't spend frivolously....or if we do spend, we know that we have to pay it back. And we're smart enough to NOT put things on a 6-month, no interest free credit card charge.

Seriously people, who do you think is paying for the Stimulus, Cap & Trade, health care and a potential stimulus 2 package? Get smart.

  17. Oh and P.S. everything from here on out is HIS problem....or the problem is from years and years of policy. You can't blame what's ahead fully on Bush.

  18. Anonymous@ 10:20 and 10:22 a.m

You are hilarious! What stuck out to me in your comments was "go be brainwashed by the media" coupled with "everything from here on out is HIS problem" - the latter being RIPPED DIRECTLY FROM AN RNC AD! By the way, did you NOT read that I wasn't JUST blaming it on Bush? I gave you some homework to do (look up Glass Steagall Act, Gramm - Leach Bliley Act and Commodities Futures Modernization Act).

Palin was murdered in the media? More like suicide. If she cannot tell you what newspapers she reads, that is HER problem. If she cannot remember a Supreme Court case that she made a statement about just a couple of months ago, that is HER problem. Couric was asking her basic questions that she would ask ANYONE in Palin's position (and in fact WERE asked of Biden and Obama)

Regarding stimulus and spending, we're spending to get us OUT of the debt that Bush sent us into after he was given a budget surplus. In fact, by spending on items like infrastructure, we get BACK $1.59 into the GDP/economy for every dollar we spend, while if we made Bush's tax cuts for the richest 1% permanent, we would LOSE 70 cents on the dollar for every dollar we gave back in tax cuts. Go look up Keynes, and what we did after the Great Depression. I'm done with you until you do, because you are a JOKE.
