Hot Topics: Playboy changes its mind about hate-filled article on conservative women; Women want to spend more time at home

  1. i think it's sad how quick Bitsy is to divide us with terms like liberal. she jumped to a conclusion before even hearing the NOW's public statement. yes she retracted her statement, but she still felt the need to say it in the first place which just shows how petty she is and how devisive she is trying to be. i can't wait til she goes on eggo-prego leave!!!

and i want Whoopi back! Whoopi would have had some interesting thoughts on that discussion...

  2. i also find it very interesting how these same people can call playboy.com a "hate site" but refuse to admit that FOX NEWS and RUSH spouted hate speech that justified the brutal murder of a woman's health care provider less than a week ago. so quickly how we forget....

  3. What was ELISABETH so devisive about? She commented on an organization that is pro-women that didn't even know about the Playboy article. The NOW didn't even have a public statement until ELISABETH went to them.

    I heart Elisabeth!!!!

  4. Christopher...quit with your liberal tirade. There's a difference between calling an article a hateful article and a News station a hate site when clearly, on both sides of the political spectrum, you have "mentally handicapped" people. (I apologize if I offend anyone with that terminology beforehand, but this man clearly had a history of his own abortion agenda).

Chris- continue drinking your Olbermann kool-aid all you want, but please keep the talk on target. I actually didn't mind this episode of The View, despite Vanessa's ill-choice in dress. :)

  5. The Whoopster is a moderate. She probably would've sided with Elisabeth. :)

  6. exactly! she made a comment and labeled an organization as liberal without even hearing a statement in order to express their ideology as different than her own.

divisive: forming or expressing division or distribution

  7. well if i am going to continue drinking my "Olbermann kool-aid" you should start with actually listening to Bitsy's statement. she called it a "hate site" and linked the article with the entire playboy enterprise. so in that respect, FOX could (and should) be labeled as a hate monger!

and you're right, this man clearly had his own abortion agenda...it concerned the health of the mothers regardless of what religious fanatics would have wanted! let's not forget, he was working within the confines of the law. but you should know that right, i'm mean you are in law school from what i read in previous posts.

and yes Whoopi would have most likely supported Bitsy's conclusion that the article was inappropriate, as do I. but Whoopi probably would have said somehting along the lines of, "don't start passing judgement before you hear a full story" something which Bitsy couldn't stop herself from doing, even after she heard a public statement.

  9. Christopher:

    a) I'm not in law school. I will be in law school.
    b) I'm sorry if you think that my not analyzing E. Hasselback's words is that bad but I don't see the point. It's an entertainment show. They talk about someone for 2 seconds and then move on, as should we. :)
    c) I was talking about the man that killed Tiller, not Tiller himself. I don't agree with his actions, but I don't condone dying of any sort.
    d) I'm sorry that you can't separate television and reality. If everyone ruled by what was said on television, that would be a sad, sad thing. Maybe you can learn to separate the two. I'm sure it's folks like you and the Tiller killer that can't separate your own life from what you hear on TV. (And no I'm not comparing you to a killer, just saying that your logic is faulty.)
    e) I doubt Whoopi wouldn't have said that...she doesn't always act impartially.
    f) The statement was AFTER E. Hasselback even made mention of the article. Maybe they would have stated something, maybe they wouldn't. We don't know that. I see nothing wrong with what she did. ENTERTAINMENT show, not fact show. That's like taking Rush Limbaugh's quote of Obama failing and saying that he wants Obama to fail. Both are crazy and insane and are said by people that don't even listen to the man. Get over it people.

  10. Besides..if the liberals would've had a stink with it, Joy would've made it an issue. And she didn't, so if she doesn't have a problem with it, why do you? Sheesh!

  11. Joy doesn't speak for all liberals, michelle. Unless you want to claim Elisabeth speaks for all conservatives. Which you don't want to do.

  12. Of course she doesn't speak for all liberals, but I would think that anything that's "reaching" for a conservative, would be something that Joy had an issue with. And I believe she speaks for the majority of liberals. The conservative party is made up of far more differing personalities....from extreme conservatives to libertarians.

Granted, I don't see where I said ALL liberals so I think this point is moot. :)

  13. hahaha yes Michelle you did compare me to Tiller's muderer, but i'm not offended, it would take much more. i do love how you jumped to a conclusion that resulted in me not knowing the difference between TV and reality. apparently someone like Tiller's murderer could not and for that reason we should not be promoting this kind of violence in mainstream entertainment. it's great how this playboy article was almost immediately pulled because it suggested 10 conservative women who men would love to "hate fuck" (which I would agree is RAPE), however, the other commentators can praise a murderer for his brutal actions, which only prepetuates the justification of violence and fear without even getting slapped on the wrist.

and more to the point-it is widely accepted that today's society is much more violent then previous generations. this is due to the fact that everything around us is becoming increasingly more violent and those of us (apparently me as you said above) who can't differ between reality and entertainment have begun to immitate what we see (i.e. video games, professional wrestling, movies, etc). maybe if we actually began censoring these violent images that we are all exposed to at an earlier and earlier age we would not have the problems we do today (or maybe not to the same extent). this goes for sexually explicit images as well, which as shown in this clip have not been accepted because of the public outcry. if the public had the same outcry regarding BILL O's comments towards Tiller, there may have been a backlash and Tiller may still be alive. unfortunately BILL was allowed to run at the mouth for various years regarding Tiller's reputation and look what happened.....

and DO NOT compare me with a murderer, that's just sad. if I was actively seeking to "hate fuck" conservative women or brutally assassinate a doctor that would be a different story (let me be clear, niether of which I am doing). it is that small minority of "mentally handicapped" people that believe everything they hear or read that should be of concern when hate speech is produced in the media. don't start pointing fingers at me please!

  14. OH FOR GOD'S SAKE please stop having these stupid arguments - netiehr of you is ever going to convince the other, it's just dull and you are both bringing up points of absolutely no relevence.

  16. did The View put that random quick advertisement for Safeway during the clip?? And did The View silence Barbara when she was talking at 6:42 or was it the recording?
