  1. I`m shocked. How can they talk about a woodenspoon and how wrong it is to talk up if you see something wrong.
If I see a Person hitting and screaming at an other person ( no matter what size ) I will speak up and take a closer look.

  2. There is a difference between spanking and hurting the child and i think that the info Joy was considering would more likely be associated with someone who abuses the child. MOst of the people i know were spanked as children and they apparantly came out just fine

  3. This makes me so angry, hitting a child (or anybody) is WRONG and it doesnt matter how hard you do it. It hasnt much to do with discipline but with inflicting pain, physically and mentally. You go to prison for hitting strangers, your wife and so forth but it is okay to hit your child??? YOU ARE PHYSICALLY SUPERIOR to your child and its pathetic if you abuse their trust and love like that!!! I doubt someone will ever get their point across like that, duh!!

    So with Joy on that!!!!

  6. There are only 2 reasons why I would advocate spanking a child. It's when she/he has put herself in grave danger by crossing the streets (etc.) in defiance of a warning from a parent or when he/she has put another child in serious harm, especially if consistent lecture from parent was there from the beginning. When they can't understand a "conversation" yet.

  7. From Sweden - having abortions doesn't mean that you have sexual problems.

  8. My dad spanked me on my behind when i was young, only because i did something terribly wrong, but he didn't like hit my butt with a stick or anything, he just like hit it a little not cause he was mad, just to get my attention. My dad said he would never a hurt a child, and he didn't hurt me he just tried to get my attention. So from slamming your childs hand on a door, and spanking your child for doing something they shouldn't do, there is a big difference

  9. Spanking is alright in a disciplinary fashion- but having to resort to it shows a lack of thought in parenting- I think Elisabeth pointed out you should never hit a child when angry. There are far superior ways of disciplining a child; my mother, even to this day, can put the fear of god knows what into me with a single look.

Also- there are ways of interfering without saying anything to the parent (liv tyler-style)...the power of a look...or a comment to another passer-by...or the police...ya know...

  10. Every time I see a child acting up in the store, or a child talking back to their parents, and the parents shaking their finger and saying "oh no, don't do that, it's bad" or "you're going to get a timeout"--I thank God my parents spanked me. It has made me more respectful, more disciplined, and well-mannered. Some of the kids (and the stunts they pull) that I see, need to get a good spanking. Sometimes I just want to go up to the parent and say "Please spank your child!" Granted, I don't think you should abuse your child or hit out of anger, but the child should never have control over the parent, never.

  11. Yeah - It does. Having several abortions is a sign that you have sexual problems. She has also told about her multiple sex partners.

All the people that where spanked as children will ofcourse say "There is nothing wrong with me".

There is a reason for why spanking is illegal in the European Union.

  12. Children need to be disciplined.
    It's the fact of life.
Spare the Rod, spoil the child.

Yet one should do the disciplining at home.
    Not in public.
If the child were to do something inappropriate, yank the child home and disciple your child.
You do your thing at home, out of the public's eye.
You cannot bother the world with your antics; it's selfish.

Yet, while I advocate corporal punishment for my own child, I would also stop any parent or guardian from hitting a child.

That's the paradox of child rearing.

  13. Amen, to what "From Sweden" said!!!!! Violence is violence and illegal over here in Europe. I wonder if one would spank a another person if they dont do as one pleases. Pathetic stupid hypocrisy!!!!

  14. Joy was on point on this topic. I'm shocked that they are saying if you see violence you shouldn't interefere, and sit and watch.

  15. From Sweden, I'm from Belgium and I didn't even know spanking your child was illegal in the EU. That's just ridiculous. My parents spanked, sometimes a bit too hard even, and I came out to be a very disciplined respectful person. I'm 22 now and my relationship with my parents couldn't be better. If I ever have kids I will definately spank their behinds if they need to be disciplined.

I also disagree. It's not because you've had multiple abortions and sex partners that you have sexual problems. If you want to have sex with just 1 person in your entire life that is up to you but don't judge people who want to sleep with 1000 people. That's their choice. Only thing I think is if you want to sleep with so many people you should use protection to AVOID the multiple abortions.

    Done venting

  16. It's not everywhere in the EU - it'd legal in the UK within limits. I can't remeber what the limits are, but I think they're mostle to do ith the age of the child. I think a light smack is absolutely fine, and people should really be able to tell the difference between abuse and a slight smack for discipline. It would be very rude to interfere with a parent smacking a child's bum if they've done something wrong (although they shouldn't really do that in public), just as it would be rude to interfere if someone was simply verbally telling their kid off. However I think that most people would clearly be able to tell if a parent was just hitting and abusing their child and step in. It's not completely black and white, not all hitting is bad, which makes it a very hard discussion to argue. For example if my child ran out infront of a car, or onto the raod in general, I would not hestiate to smack their bum or give them a light hit on the hand as they need to realise just how serious what they've done is.

  17. Joy is so off on this. Little kids need to know certain things cant be dont. Example, if you saw your baby (1 or two yers old) putting something bad in their mouth, as babys do, you smack their little hand and take it away. They learn that if i try to eat this... it hurts, so i wont do that again. Also spanking your child for the right reasons when they are young will put a certain amount of "fear" in them, which is needed. It keeps them from doing crazy stuff and as they grow (and no longer fear a spanking)the fear turns into respect. Im sorry its so dumb to say dont spank your kids because ummmm if they break the law.... the COPS have no problem beating them bloody. And also, some kids need to be spanked. i HATE to see little kids running around stores SREAMING and yelling and their parents are like "Tim stop that" PLEASE i would have NEVER done that when i was younger because when we FIRST got out of the car my mom would say... dont touch NOTHING stay right by me OR im gonna whip ya A$$.... and i did exatly what she said. I think it depends on the childs personality. Punishment and time out doesnt work for everyone child. Although a spanking should not be the 1st thing you do, its a vital tool. Kids these days DONT get them and look how they have NO respect for their elders or their parents. Check out MTV you actually see kids screaming at their parents and telling them to shut up. THATS CRAZY......Ok im gonna get off of my soap box now lol

It always appears as if Sherri and Whoopi are the only ones SO PRO SPANKING. Always talking about how in their cultures parents spank. I'm black and was spanked and I LOATHE how they congratulate it. WE all know that in black families there isn't just a SPANK but BEATINGS. And if these BEATINGS are so successful then why is the crime rate in the black community still sky rocket high? Whoopi and Sherri are so dysfunctional and hypocritical in many ways but its so sad because they don't see it just because they are RICH AND FAMOUS they believe they "turned out ok" YEAH RIGHT.

  19. Sherri's so useless....she is perhaps the most pointless person on the panel

  20. don't say that beatings are in black families you don't know every black family that's not a race thing. and don't believe the statistics about black crime either!

  21. um crime in the black community is related to income ad poverty level and not who is getting spanked.furthermore Elizabeth definitely seemed to whole-heartedly agree with the idea of spanking.

  22. I'm studying psychology and not to be rude, but a lot of you have no idea how much your childhood environment has shaped you. I was someone who was a very deep thinker from a young age and thought I knew myself and my ins and outs pretty well. Taking some psych courses put me in my place and made me begin to piece the puzzle of myself together bit by bit. It also taught me that I really knew very little about myself at all. The fact is that the spanking of a child(no matter to what degree) has an affect on you whether you realize it or not. It is just as the saying goes, every action has an equivicol reaction.

Children disrespect their parents because that is what the parents taught them. A child only knows as much as they were taught. To blame the child for what the parent(s) chose to raise them as and in isn't their choice. They just respond to it accordingly.

As someone else stated, if you have to resort to violence (hitting of any kind is violence whether you want to admit to it or not) to get your own child whom you've raised from birth to respect you, maybe you need to take a closer look at how you're raising that child.

To end my post, don't assume what you were raised in and in turn, what you are doing to your child will have no affect on you or them. You are much more oblivious to the consequences as you think.
