  1. I don't like Sarah Palin at all but Letterman crossed the line here. Doesn't matter which daughter he's talking about, they're both too young. Gross.

  3. I believe jokes should only be about adults. I do think Letterman crossed the line but I'm glad he later realised it and apologised. I'm not excusing him of course.

  4. Why does Joy hate Sarah Palin so much? I understand not likng her but Joy seems to have zero symptahy for Palin. I mean Sarah Palin could lose a child and Joy would still be like "eh."

And if I hear that comedian excuse one more time...

  5. God damn these heartless women. Joy, when Letterman talks about raping your daughter or her offspring, I'll see how you will react. Ass!

  6. I feel it's more his writers' fault than Letterman's to a.) write such a tasteless joke and b.) not realize that it was the 14 year old daughter with Palin and not that older one.

Palin released a statement today insinuating that Letterman was a pedophile. That was not classy at all on her part.

In response to anonymous @12:29, it's kind of easy to hate Sarah Palin if you disagree with her views on... pretty much everything. Her views about science and abortion and all of the hunting that she does can be infuriating.

Although I seriously doubt Joy would say "eh" if one of Palin's children died. Only a monster could be that cold-hearted.

  8. Though I do think the joke was inappropriate, Bristol is an adult who has put herself out in the public eye, so I don't see why she should be protected from these kinds of jokes more than any other celebrity simply because she is known as the daughter of a politician. Because she has gone through the talk show circuit to promote her own values and beliefs--not to promote her mother--she is no longer simply Sarah Palin's daughter. The fact that the joke was in reference to the wrong daughter is a mistake on behalf of his writers, who should be taking the blame.

I was also hoping that Joy or Whoopi would point out the last part of Palin's representative's quote talking about how it proves that New York entertainers have a long way to go to relate to the rest of America. I am sick of Sarah Palin splitting America into two seperate parts, and stating that large, east coast, liberal cities are somehow less American than small towns. When foreigners visit America, they don't go to small towns, they go to big cities. When terrorists attack (or attempt to attack), they target big cities. When people think of America, they think of L.A., New York, Philadelphia, etc., not some small town in Ohio or Wyoming or whatever. I'm certainly not saying that small towns are "less American" than big cities, simply that saying big cities are not as in touch with the "real America" is absurd , ignorant and offensive.

  9. Thank you Brian for your comment about big cities, I completely agree with you. Big cities, small towns, tiny villages all make up the United States. And honestly if the country really associated with Palin's ignorant views (I don't consider her just conservative), then she'd probably be the Vice President right now, instead of Biden.

  10. Brian - I've lived in both big and small cities and while I don't know where you specifically live, there are HUGE separations from small town and metropolitan cities. Take a look at health care, education, the whole family set-up and other areas to see the difference. And while you say that people abroad go to cities such as LA (the city to which I live near), NY, Florida...I don't really hear about folks going to Philly...that's because that's ALL they hear about. Those are the cities that are the most similar to living abroad. And while I would never EVER condone terrorist attacks, it makes sense for any person to attack a city that has as many people that a NY or an LA would have. I strongly believe in there being two separate parts of the US and I also believe in the US being as one. So maybe you can see/understand where I'm coming from, maybe you can't....oh well.

As far as Bristol, I don't mind with her having SOME media attention because of her statements on abstinence and whatnot. What I have a problem with is the OBSESSION by hateful "news sites" paying such homage to Letterman or other "comics" or individuals that say such spiteful things about her or ANYONE else in the same position.

And as far as Joy's show goes, I will watch it tank, much like the NY Times, CNN viewership and beyond. :)

  11. Bristol is 18 years old meaning she is an adult and she has put herself out there for criticism and jokes by appearing in the media as a spokesperson for abstinence. Chelsea Clinton was also made fun of during her father's presidency and no one seemed to make a huge fuss, which also shows that it's not just Sarah Palin's kids or conservatives that are made fun of as Elisabeth suggests.

The whole suggestion that the joke promoted rape and allegations that Letterman is somehow a pedophile are completely ridiculous and just outlandish statements by Gov. Palin to remain in the spotlight. Unfortunately for her all she is doing increasing Letterman's ratings, while making her and her party look like even bigger idiots. I'm sure people like Letterman and other liberals are hoping she sticks around and eventually runs for president because there can't be an easier person for the Democrats to beat and further bring down what's left of the Republican party.

  13. JR...please tell me what pundits would say AGAINST her other than her curls? Becuase I doubt it. I think Chelsea was made fun of for her nerd-quality, which her father lacked. I happen to like Chelsea but I would never stand for her or any president's daughter being maligned or argued against.

As for Letterman's opinions....he's shown FOR YEARS, that he's against his Indiana roots. He made an illegitimate son...that I'm fine with. If he married the woman he's been with, as a conservative, I'll agree to that....if I have to. But David used to stand for something, Republican believe...and for some odd reason, that left him. And I don't fault him for that. I fault him for any sense of sarcastic, rhetoric that he has with guests. His act is stale and he should be replaced. Of course guests want to be on with him, but he should be on at a later timeslot as more people are ready to fill his slot. Why can't Tim Allen or Ray Morano be a comedian? Romano is great at jokes...he can reach both political & common. Letterman has gone left...and therefore has gone bankrupt. :)

  14. JR....what what Chelsea made fun of for? Please tell me this. :) (I am not disagreeing that she was...just want to know what you think she was made fun of for)

  15. DAVID LETTERMAN'S HATE, ETC. !

David Letterman's hate is as old as some ancient Hebrew prophets.
Speaking of anti-Semitism, it's Jerry Falwell and other fundy leaders who've gleefully predicted that in the future EVERY nation will be against Israel (an international first?) and that TWO-THIRDS of all Jews will be killed, right?
Wrong! It's the ancient Hebrew prophet Zechariah who predicted all this in the 13th and 14th chapters of his book! The last prophet, Malachi, explains the reason for this future Holocaust that'll outdo even Hitler's by stating that "Judah hath dealt treacherously" and "the Lord will cut off the man that doeth this" and asks "Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother?"
Haven't evangelicals generally been the best friends of Israel and Jewish persons? Then please explain the recent filthy, hate-filled, back-stabbing tirades by David Letterman (and Sandra Bernhard) against a leading evangelical named Sarah Palin, and explain why most Jewish leaders have seemingly condoned Palin's continuing "crucifixion"!
While David and Sandra are tragically turning comedy into tragedy, they are also helping to speed up and fulfill the Final Holocaust a la Zechariah and Malachi, thus helping to make the Bible even more believable!
