  1. I can understand Sherri, but...Give me a break.

How about positive roles for Latinos? I'm Puerto Rican and would LOVE to see more of us on television that doesn't inflict in the American stereotype.

Stfu Sherri, there are PLENTY of other groups that should have representation.

  2. did she say that only black people should have representation?

  3. She did say minorities. What is wrong with her wanting to see more people like herself on the small screen? If others want to be included then its time for them to speak up for themselves.
    Don't hate on the messenger.

  4. Exactly. I'm latina and hopefully there will be more positive roles for every group. We need to stop with the complaining and get invloved.

  5. Firstly, R.I.P Natasha Richardson.
I agree, nothing is wrong with her saying there should be more minorities on television. I dont think she was saying that there should be only more black people. There should be more blacks, hispanics, asians, and native americans. Also the shows and roles shouldnt be all stereotypes. Hopefully people do get involved and we will see more them.

    Thanx Lester!

  6. Latinos can speak for themselves and they should along with other minorities. I'm african american so I'm concerned about images of african american, for myself and my young nieces and nephews People who look like use. People saying give me a break need to give themselves a break and walk a mile in someone elses shoes. I agree with Sherri and I think Elizabeth is a closet racist.

  7. RIP Natasha, such a terrible loss!

Can I just say to Sherri - try being a LESBIAN and you'll no about no representation! There are no lead lesbian characters on ANY show and few lesbian characters at all on mainstream or cable TV! That is why the L Word was such a phenomenal success because it gave a voice to and represented for the fist time the lesbian community! Sadly its last season is now over so the situation for lesbian representation is pretty dire! :(

  8. First of all i've nothing against seeing more minorities on tv but come on, its not like there's none there now. And complaining that Everybody Hates Chris and The Game might be going off the air iis stupid, its not because they have a black cast, its because they are crap!
I'm sure that if people wrote good pilots with black or other minorities as the leads they would have a chance of succeeding.
And that comment about thanking god for shonda rhimes or we would never see a black chief of residents on tv? Give me a break! There's only about 3 medical shows on network tv right now and they all have black characters in the main cast, i mean come on, get over it.

  9. Joy is a classic! "Wayy too many Italian's on the Soprano's" she's great at making light of everything.

  10. Kudos to Whoopi to turn all those parts to fit her

  11. Ugh, Sherri, shut the fuck up. All of the shows she mentioned SUCKS. God, wah wah wah.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I can almost hear Joy getting prompts via her ear-piece to try to lighten the tone of the discussion, as she's the one who always does that.
Also, I don't think Barbara & EH actually wanted this topic to be discussed.

  13. To Sherri defense, she didn't say more blacks on television, she said more minorities meaning: African Americans, Latinos, Asian Americans etc...

  14. RIP Natasha.

  15. I think minorities should start writing their own material if they ever want to see more of them on television instead of complaining about it

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well they can write their own materials, but they still gotta get the studios to agree to take them on.
I do have to add that I'm surprised The Game even lasted this long as it was such a horrible show.

  17. There are black people who write and produce and direct buuuuut it's the people that are the major heads of the networks that say "NO" to minorities of any color because they do not reflect the people below them. That is the problem once we get a person of color who is the head of a major network and understands what minorities go thought then we may see a change. and please delete BET from the question because they have not done anything to improve that.

  18. I've been messed up about Vanessa's daughter all day.
I'm praying for Liam's boys too. It took me back to losing my own mother in 06, seems like yesterday.
There's hardly anything more tragic or worse.

  19. When Sherri starts wanting equal rights for other MINORITIES i.e. gays & lesbians!!!! I might start to listen to her when she starts on about her being in a minority and being sooooo affected by it my god, imagine not being able to marry your life partner!!!!

"I'd like to speak up for the chinese right now" ROFL, go Joy!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. What about Latinos, East Indians, Arabs and Asians? And what about gays & lesbians?

Why is it always black? I think they get pretty good representation for their proportion. But I do agree minorities need more LEAD roles and not SUPPORTING roles.

And I'm saying this as an East Indian.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sherri did say minorities as a whole, but as an African American, of course she's gonna speak more for black people. I think African Americans who speak up for black rights often try to do so for other minorities as well, but frankly, as far as black people are concerned, black issues have to take precedence. Blacks have always been the most vocal minority group, but now it's time for other ethic groups to come and be just as loud and speak up for themselves.

As far as there not being enough lead roles for minorities on TV, I agree completely. And minorities getting a few token, supporting roles every now and then just doesn't cut it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. i would like to say that (and I'm sure people have said this already)... think about other minorities who don't even have a presence on the big screen. Red Indians, Chinese and Indians don't have much a presence in the media in America (apart from the weirdly popular Slumdog Millionaire for Indians).

for someone who lives overseas, we are inundated with all-white (or mostly white) casts. they took off margaret cho's show off the air (the only Asian drenched sitcom) and at the moment, apart from Grey's Anatomy, there aren't any other Asian people in television.

Go Joy for mentioning Chinese!! lol

    ReplyDelete
  23. All minorities should come together not complain about who has it worse. The fact is every non-white and non-straight group is not represented we all have that in common and feel the same about that and should do something about it together because we're all in the same boat. and Sherri did say minorities. anyway i don't think there is enough representation of any minorities it's a topic i discuss all the time with my friends about every minority being black I feel for every other minority

  24. sherri is right, babs said that there were 20 shows with black people...really. having two black people on a show does not make it a black show, its the whole cast babs. im going to count out those shows babs was talking about. i like how elisabeth agreed with sherri, and elisabeth also brought up the token black person in a show. if your asian, latino, black, you are the minority, don't fell left out if your race wasn't said.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Perhaps they should stop making such shitty shows and people would want to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  26. All you latinos and gays that are getting down Sherri's throat for wanting more blacks on tv should get on the case of celebrities that fall in your respective demographic (i.e jennifer lopez, eva longoria -for the latinos and wanda sykes, t.r knight, ellen for the gays and lesbians). These are all people that can speak out about the need for more latina representation or gay and lesbian representation on tv.

  27. ALL MINORITIES ARE UNDERREPRESENTED ON THIS BULLSHIT WE CALL MEDIA. LATINOS, BLACK PEOPLE, AND THE NATIVE AMERICANS,ARABS. ITS SO SAD.

    ReplyDelete
  28. barbawaaaa is a bitch! it doesnt matter that there is one or two blacks. fuck the progress bullshit! we need more!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ok the whole minorities thing....its true there are not many POSTIIVE minorities on TV. Also, when a show is written and produced by minorities it may do VERY well, for example Martin (7 season, only stopped because of legal issues with the actors) but they dont get recognized. Why was he NEVER nominated for anything that show was a HIT, or how about NY Undercover. I all the lead roles were minorities on that show also. I personally dont care about who im looking at on TV, but then again Id rather be reading a book lol. ALso, I am soooo tired of Eliz and Obama seriousy is she going to do this for the next 4 yrs. EVERYTIME they bring the president up she throws out some litte remark, which ive noticed they just ignore now lol. I mean she has done more Obama bashing in 60 days then Joy did in 8 yrs of Bush lol. That is of course just my opinion

    ReplyDelete
  30. What is the percentage of blacks in the USA? I would say that there are that many in television or more..when I watch Music award shows they outnumber whites and if you watch sports they outnumber whites...even the President is black..what else can we do...just sit back and not do anything and let blacks do it all...

  31. Ok - Firstly, RIP Natasha Richardson.

Secondly, every day I dislike Sherri more and more. From her disrespectful comments to her obsession with race. Sherri - not everything is a racist action or comment just because it involves black people. So DL Hugley's show and Girlfriends and other like shows are being canceled, it doesn't mean they are being canceled BECAUSE they are predominately black casts! That's ridiculous! Also, 70 sitcoms are in the works now and only 4 are with predominantly black casts? That 17.5%. Which is more percentage points than there are of black people who live in the United States (which is 12.5%). That means there are more "black TV shows" than there are black people - from a statistical standpoint.
Sherri - quit being so asinine and start using some common sense and logic.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Um, 4 is 17.5% of 70? Since when? It's like 6% or something and you really shouldn't really be even able to calculate that wrong. Particularly when it's the point of your argument.

  33. What a gorgeuose woman. Loved her in the parent trap! RIP Natascha.

  34. I dont think that Sherri was "complaining" she was speaking TRUTH. I think it's hard for non minorities to understand the sort of "isolation" others go through when you aren't able to connect or relate to characters on TV. I can't even IMAGINE how Asian Americans must feel, I mean you NEVER EVER see them or American Indians anywhere on tv. And people DO want to see those of other ethnicities and their struggles and lives. Look at how well slumdog millionaire did, Im sorry but Im so tired of seeing "one note" of people on tv..its very unfair and for those non minorities that dare to say "enough already, or shut up, etc., etc." you're partially to blame.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I dont understand why Latinos, Lesbians, Gays, Asians, etc., etc. have a problem with Sherri speaking out about not seeing people like HER on tv. I mean, there are a few latino actors/actresses that just dont speak FOR their community. Same with the Asians...usually they just marry a non asian/latino person and forget about how hard it was for them. A lot of fair treatment many minorities receive today because of the civil rights movement was passed because MOSTLY BLACKS died and fought in DRIVEN NUMBERS. Many blacks feel like they have a UNITED VOICE and aren't AFRAID to be BLACK. Whereas, It seems a lot of other minorities are TOO BUSY trying to BE WHITE or be NON "OTHER THAN WHITE" to even voice their concerns or their own interests against an unfair system. Latinos are STARTING to do this, but as a whole..BLACKS have always been a driving strong voice of "complaints"

  36. I find it very interesting that people are including gays and lesbians as minorities. That's a huge stretch if you ask me. I know that minorities can include anyone that is not the same as a larger group, however, saying that a gay or lesbian person is a minority, and I'm saying the societal term "minority", is like saying that anyone that is not like most people is a minority, i.e. little people, disabled people, vegetarians, people with a disorder, etc, etc. I'm not knocking gays or lesbians but I feel as though the societal term of minorities should be limited to race. When it's taken beyond that point, you have to wonder where you draw the line. Technically, Bill Gates and Trump are minorities, because most people don't have as much money as them. I could go on and on with examples.

  37. FOR THE DELUSIONAL IDIOTS LEAVING COMMENTS ABOUT SHERRI'S STATEMENT CONCERNING MORE BLACKS ON T.V., HER STATEMENT IS VERY MUCH TRUE. THE TRUTH IS THAT THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH BLACKS, LATINOS, CHINESE, ASIANS, AND NATVIE AMERICANS ON TV. WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE SHERRI WHO ARE WILLING TO SPEAK UP! BARBARAS AND EH'S ATTACKS OR NEED TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION ONLY CONFIRM SHERRIS STATEMENT AND THE GUILT OF THE TRUTH THAT THEY HAVE! JUST BECAUSE WE HAVE THE FIRST BLACK FAMILY DOESNT MEAN THAT EVERY RACE PROBLEM IN AMERICA IS SOLVED. THE PEOPLE WHO CONTROL THE MEDIA ARE WHITE PEOPLE. NOT ALL BUT MOST! AND THE TRUTH IS THAT THOSE WHITE PEOPLE WHO CONTROL THE TELEVISION CHANNELS WE SEE EVERYDAY WANT TO PROTECTB THAT IMAGE BECAUYSE THEY ARE SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT THE EUROPEAN RACE IS ACTUALLY THE MINORITY IN THE WORLD. IF WE LOOK AT THE POPULATION OF THE WORLD THEN WE KNOW THAT AT LEAST 75 OF PEOPLE ON EARTH ARE PEOPLE OF COLOR. SO THEY HAVE TO TEACH WETHER DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY THAT PEOPLE OF COLOR ARENT AS BEAUTIFUL AS SMART AS UNIVERSAL. IT IS ALL A GAME. WHY DO YOU THINK THAT MOST WHITE PEOPLE SAY QUEEN NEFFERTITI WAS WHITE OR ANYTHING BESIDES BLACK? WHY DO YOU THINK BLACK PEOPLE, AS TOLD IN HISTORY BOOKS, OUR HISTORY WAS JUST PICKING COTTON. GET REAL AND FIND THE TRUTH!
