  1. Jesus, what a fear-mounger!! "Think about what you would do if you couldn't go to work and if the kids can't go to school". Like that's ever going to happen! It's awful that 100 people have died, but that's 100 people in a country of over 100 million people! Also, using that hand sanitiser all the time is pretty bad, especially for children, as it shoots down all the good bacteria in their immune system so they are so susceptible to viruses, bugs, and especially things like asthma.
Grrrr it;s ridiculous that this guy is being so over dramatic!

  2. I agree. This swine flu reeks of fear-mongering. I just wonder what it's for? Maybe this time, it's just for ratings.

  3. Sorry, I don't hear 'fear mongering', just information that might be helpful to some.
If you listen well he actually disproved most
of the crap that the newspapers are reporting.
What is wrong with being well informed?

  5. I'm over this over obsession with this swine flu. Yes we should keep watch over it - but we should not panic! There are SO much more issues we have to deal with. When it becomes a pandemic - yes we should panic.

And I cannot believe Dr. Oz actually brought up the 1918 pandemic to scare the audience. It's like telling someone with a finger cut that there was once a person who got infected with a bacteria and died. Yes, it happens, but why bring up that small chance up?

This story is just a reason for the media to take our eyes off the REAL problems in our society.

  6. People died from it that's why the world is panicking. What's more pressing issue than a deadly pandemic virus is spreading the world?

  7. Hmmmm.... the economy, HIV/AIDS, malaria, (an actual pandemic), child abuse, slavery, torture, global warming, people starving all over the world... I think are all much more pressing. 100 people dead does not a pandemic make.

If you have flu like symptoms and have recently been to Mexico, or been in a room with someone who has been to Mexico, by all means go to the doctor for yours and everyone else's sake. But if there's no reason why you should have it there is absolutley no reason to think you might not be able to leave your house next week!

  8. I definitely agree with the above statements that the Media is taking the swine flu way too far. It is not an epidemic nor is it a pandemic. Once again, only 149 people have died because of it. The Media has no other need to play up this story to make it seem more horrible but to make us forget about other problems. I definitely agree with the comment before me. There are thousands more pressing issues that we SHOULD be discussing but we're not.

  9. people using anti bacterial hand sanitizers and anti bacterial hand soaps.. and anti-bacterial bathing soaps should stop because they kill the good bacteria and virus that lives in our system and can help us become more immune to strains of viruses and bacteria. so quit with the hand sanitizers. I can't beleive Doctor Oz does not know about that.

  10. Exactly! I agree with everyone. Only 150 people have died so far (in Mexico). And everyone infected with it in the U.S. and Canada are self-recovering from it (did not even require anti-viral drugs).

According to the World Health Organization, in 2007, 2 million people died because of AIDS in one year. AIDS is a confirmed EPIDEMIC. Yet, I don't hear the media panicking about that.

  11. 'cos you don't catch AIDS by someone infected sneezing on you

  12. PANIC!... haha. OK, please do not be prepared for a possible pandemic. But, then you should also not be surprised (and then panic) when you are not prepared. Just like banking industry failures, as it started, many people said... "Don't panic, it is just a small thing." Now? world recession.
Also, for those who say ONLY 150 have died so far, the same was said about AIDS back in the early 1980's. Many people said back then, "Dont't panic, only the fags in NYC and SF are dying"...... hmmmm

  13. Yes, anonyomous at 7.43, but people can recover from flu, but once you've got HIV you have it for life. This flu can be 100% eradicated, but until there's a cure HIV/AIDS cannot.

  14. yup exactly with a viral infection you can recover HIV attacks your CD4+ T-cells and your immune system evtually depletes itself... i believe the swine flu thing is way over exagerrated, its good to be cautious about it but you know don't lock yourself in a room just because of this... and hand sanitizers are basically high percentage of ethanol which act by denaturing proteins and are nearly all the time bacteriacidal and fungicidal and only some lipid-containing viruses are destroyed... it is not an effective way of killing viruses which are soo small... and yes they do kill the normal bacterial flora of the skin which is not ideal.... anyway don't stress out people! SARS was way worse than this back when it started... but ya know media love to put fear into everyone
