What a beautiful kid, and a beautiful psychologist. She was spot on. If you have some self respect and know how to stand up for yourself, the bullies can't get to you. They play on your insecurities, weaknesses or self doubt and vunerabilities. Sticks and stones do hurt. Words can be damagaing. Ignoring it does not make the problem go away. Moreover, you become the victim. You need to learn how to take the power back. You shouldn't have to ignore it and run away. You learn to reclaim your power and personal space. This psychologist is the bomb! The other psychologist was spot on as well. Unfortunately, conflict arises as the dynamics change. So when the victim starts to assert him or herself, the bullies will either respect their space or retailiate and escalate the problem.
