Loved the debate going on b/t Elizabeth and Joy today! If only they would allow each other to finish their point w/o interruption! But this is one of the few times I agree with President Obama in not releasing those pictures..and Eliz made a good point about why we shouldn't ever release them: Letting the enemy see first hand our torture/interrogation tactics..and Barbara showd a good example with your military son being captured! I didn't vote for Obama(Im not affiliated with any party) but I think for republicans to say he is flip-flopping is not good! Especially if the flip in his opinion is acting in the best interest of the country! I agree with Whoopi that ideas will change once a president is in office and has to make a decision based on the situation at hand not to become more popular!
This segment made me sick, both for Obama and the View ladies. Joy was the only one making remote sense. If there is any blowback for torture, it is the torturer's fault, not the person who releases the pictures. If these methods are approved and "nothing sensational", there's no harm in their release. If they are sensational, we deserve to know what happened in our name. I hope the judicial branch flips the executive the bird and releases them on schedule anyways.
I am finding Joy very annoying lately - she just thinks she's soooo halarious and often her points have very little ground to them. I think if she was in Elisebeth's postition - i.e. having to talk infron if an audience who usually disagredd with her - she would fall apart - she relies far to much on being backed up by the saudiece because, being in NY, they are mostly Liberals. I think Elisabeth, although I only sometimes agree with her, has much more grace in her arguements, I think because she knows she wil have to seriously justify her opinions while Joy can say any Liberal view, get clapped, then make a joke and do that annoying "oh look how funny I am" look.
This whole segment made me sick. I am Canadian and I supported Obama. But this decision by him REALLY angers me. I do not care if it puts your troops at risk. The world and the people of Iraq deserve to know what happened to their people when the U.S. occupied their country.
Let's say (God forbid) a country like North Korea captured American troops and striped them down naked and performed various crude acts on them and took photos of it. Do you really believe that Americans would be satisfied with the answer from North Korea: "We have decided to not release the pictures because it may anger Americans and put our North Koreans troops at risk?" Hell no! Americans would be so angry.
There is one thing I hate and that is hypocrisy and I see it with Obama with this decision. If you want people of the world to think you are open and not hiding things like Bush, please release the photos!
It really makes me sad that there are still people who are in favor of these "enhanced interrogation techniques". So what if these pictures are released and people can study them? We shouldn't be interrogating like this in the first place. Rather, we should stand up resolutely for human rights, period.
Anon @ 2:28, if this was with the Canadian troops in Afghanistan, I would have the exact same opinion. We cannot go to other countries and preach democracy and human rights and not practice it in our own countries! Those people who were stripped naked and had crude acts done on them are people. And they have rights! The Iraqi people deserve to know and see the truth!
The day that Joy Behar ever makes sense is a day when the U.S. will owe $0 financial debt to the international world.
Anon @ 2:28...why do you have such interest in the U.S.? I am always fascinated why socialist-leaning countries have severe interest in this show. If you really cared to make comments on political commentators, this is not the show to watch. Please make your comments known to message boards such as Anderson Cooper or Bill O'Reilly.
It is clear that Obama made an intelligent decision with this matter. I am on the other side of the political spectrum & follow Elisabeth's line of thinking more than the others, but respect Obama's choice with this matter at hand.
I can't wait for Joy to put up with all of the talk that Pelosi will bring to the next few months of political talk on The View. Let the good times roll. :)
Anon @ 6:33. Why do I have an interest in US politics? Why does the world have an interest in US politics? Your president is the leader of the free world. The whole world watched your elections. Many policies that are put forth by the US has extreme consequences in the world - especially Canada - your Northern neighbor. Canadian troops are in Afghanistan fighting and dying for the US because we are a part of NATO.
And I didn't mean for this comment section to get political but I thought maybe we could express our "view" and have our our discussions on the topic. :)
Thank you, Anon. from Canada - some people on this comment board, with their comments to you and towards 'from Sweden' really don't seem to undersatnd just how much influence the US has over the rest of the world - culturally but especially politically. I am British, and our troops would not be Iraq or Aghanistan were it not for the US, nor would we be such a target for terrorists if we were not affiliated with you. For major decisions, esp. foreign policy, the US sometimes leads the way for the UK. That's why I take an interest .
I think this blog is cool. We are all talking about what we think is important and keep coming back. We are starting to form a community of sorts. Thanks, Lester!
Who are these people trying to fool? "Enhanced terrorist techniques" is just a synonym for torture. Just because it has a different term or word doesn't mean it is not torture. Torture is illegal, but some people don't care what is legal or not. It is sad, but it is true.
Thank you for coming to my blog.

ReplyDelete"Sometimes old is alright... we'll be right back with Brooke Shields!" LOL. Great timing!
