To be honest I think Julia's movie didnt do well cuz we have not heard of her in YEARS! She's liek so passe. Jannifer Anniston and Angelina Jolie have constantly been in the news.

ReplyDeleteAnon 11:47AM, you are right. Unfortunately these days, it helps to have started buliding up awareness in the public eye by appearing in the tabloids, having the stalkerazzi follow you to restaurants, grocery shopping, having your eyebrows waxed etc.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Julia is a damn good actress, it's pretty much a hard sell getting today's generally fickle public to show interest in her work when she has led a kinda quiet life the last couple of years.
Also, I think Sherri has once again revealed some hurt she may have about her break-up with her ex-hubby. Her remarks about Angelina were a bit uncalled for. Didn't they do a Hot Topic once on how women are generally catty towards one another rather than be supportive. Even Joy.....pretty woman, pretty old.
Meh.. Clive Owen is hot, but not as dynamic as other major stars and Julia hasn't been in anything really blockbusting (ie high-budget and exciting) in years, so why they jumped all over her age as the cause for the box office slump is beyond me. Also, yep the dig at Angelina was kindof telling. The woman went from being a young hollywood trolip to being a UN embassador and a prominent representative for human rights around the world... if Brad was still with Jennifer he'd probably be just another pretty over-privilaged actor instead of someone who's taken an interest in the poor and hungry of the country and the world. Give her a break.. geez.
ReplyDeleteComparing Jennifer Aniston to Julia Roberts is like comparing the Jonas Brothers to the Beatles. And it's just sickening that people are still going on about Angelina "stealing" Jennifer Aniston's husband. That's ridiculous. They just had McCain's daughter on talking about how women should be supportive and stop talking about a woman's looks/weight vs. their talent/intelligence. Then seeing this, is just disappointed.

It's not Angelina's fault that Brad strayed, its his.
I never cared for him. Julia is a great girl.
Sometimes American's don't appreciate great.
Jennifer seems like such a victim all the time. She needs a meaty, strong and respectable roll.
I loved Barbara's ding on Joy and marriage. I don't think I could get tired of that...we'll see.

I am pretty sure that most of Angelina's movies have not done very well at the box office. From what I read and hear, Duplicity has a funky twisty script that may be effecting the box office and Julia cannot be blamed for the bad reviews.
ReplyDeleteMost of Angelina's movies do very well at the box office... and Angelina and Julia are two very different actresses who take on completely different kinds of roles. The comparison between the two is asinine.
ReplyDeleteI love Joy. "Pretty woman, pretty old". I hate when they won't let her be funny. Julia is just not relevant anymore. It doesn't really have to do with how pretty or old she is. She did a bunch of "America's sweetheart" movies a decade ago, and can't pull it off anymore. At a certain point no one will be buying Angelina's "tough woman with a gun" movies anymore either.
ReplyDeleteI think you're forgetting Angelina's emotion-based characters (girl interrupted, gia, changeling, etc). Point is: the woman has range and a hell of an ability to act. She's doing the "tough woman with a gun" bit while's she's got the body and youth for it. More power to her.

it just the media hype and maniston keep blabing on about brad to be in the spotlight.
angelina is 33 yr olds and is stunning with money, kids and a stunning bf.
and she is a talented actress that can do any film not sappy dog movies!!!
I hate when Whoopi isnt here. The reason Julie's movie didnt do that well is because the movie itself didnt seem that interesting. It had nothing to do with her. I mean Jolie did a few movies that didnt do that well.....

I hate it when Sherri and Elizabeth go on their christian values witch hunt on Jolie... Nobody can ''steal'' a person from another! There is no proof there was any cheating by all 3 parties and movies come out years after they are shot so we ahve no reason to believe any of this tabloid stuff! Doesn't anybody remeber all the Brad and jen break-up rumors from the DAY they got married? Anyways, they talk as though her family isn't legitimate, or her craft or her work, it is really sad!
ReplyDeleteJulia Roberts' film didnt do great because its pretty smart for the average American audience(ironically its rather a simple nice film for the rest of the world) and because Americans just care for reality TV and gossip staff these days! (proof the Angelina conversation that went on). Julia Roberts has become either too good for the states or the states have become too dump for Roberts!
ReplyDeleteActually, those of you who say Angelina's movies do well are completely uninformed. Most of her films do not do very well at all. They actually put out an article a while back pointing out that relative to their salaries, Jennifer Aniston's movies are much more profitable than Angelina's.
